It has long been my belief that a good social worker is worth more than a bucket of shrinks any day. The difference between a social worker and a shrink, is that social workers actually do stuff.
For this reason I have made a point of publicly supporting social workers in the media whenever I can. Someone has to because social workers seem to cop the blame for just about everything. Everyday CYFS social workers perform hundreds, if not thousands, of quiet miracles that no one ever hears about. All we ever hear about are the things that go wrong.
Having worked alongside social workers for about sixteen years now, and being one of the few people who actually spends time in CYFS offices around the country, I think it is an absolute miracle that so few children die. Instead of bashing social workers, we should be thanking them for coming to work each day and doing the impossible.
My response to CYFS bashers has always been this: if you can actually do the job better, then I will happily listen. Until you can demonstrate this to me however, why don't you just shut up and leave us to get on with it.
I am committed to continuing to support front line CYFS social workers and am able to offer the following services:
- Telephone consultations
- On-Site Training
- One/two day site visits
If you would like to discuss any of these options further please feel free to contact me.
