Our 6 year old boy has just had his first week back at school and had wet pants just about every day. While he is in a new classroom with a new teacher, they are all familar to him and I don't think bullying is an issue. He toliet trained around 3 1/2 with no particular drama but has always been a bit distracted about getting to the toliet on time. He was bad when he first started school but really had it sorted the last two terms of last year. He's not at all what you would call naughty but he is super dreamy and imaginative with no sense of urgency at all. He doesn't tell anyone he just lets it dry out and comes home smelling like a dirty old man from the pub! When we talk with him about it, it doesn't know why it happens. Any ideas please.

Hi there

the first thing to rule out is anything physical, messages can not get through and with boys the piping is so short they often don't have a lot of time between knowing they need to go and then it being too late.

After that, I would think about what it might otherwise be.

Hi, we to are having the same problem with our 5 year son. He's always had issues with toileting stemming from daycare making him go every 20 minutes whether he needed to or not and this has had an ongoing effect. When started school at the beginning of the year he did really well but the last few weeks he has slid back to wetting himself at school and not bothering to change. He says that he doesn't know or forgets. He hasnt made any friends which we think may be related to him wetting himself. We are both at our wits end as to what to do, any suggestions, ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - we eventually seemed to grow out of it - not 100% perfect but I can cope with the odd incident. It was a really difficult area to get help and advice on - in fact didn't seem to find any so we worked with (and on) the classroom teacher on a tolieting plan and worked hard on behaviour management of issue. This also meant us as parents re-inforcing the good days and not getting hung up on bad. It has meant on-going management of classroom and school so double checking when there a school trip etc.
Now to work on dry nights....!
